Our on-campus M.S. program focuses on developing students so that they are highly sought after by private industry and government employers as well as top-tier Ph.D. programs. Most of our M.S. students are offered graduate research and teaching assistantships that provide competitive stipends, tuition waivers, and discounted health insurance. We also strive to foster a culture among grad students and faculty that is supportive and collaborative.
Students complete 24 hours of rigorous coursework that develops their critical thinking, quantitative, and analytical skills. A thesis is then completed under the supervision of our world-renowned faculty. Our faculty receive national awards for the quality of their research, serve as editors of peer-reviewed journals, and are elected to offices of major organizations. They are sought out by industry, government officials, and other agricultural stakeholders to address pressing questions. Students comment that they enjoy working with their major professor to address issues that are relevant to stakeholders. Students can also receive assistance to travel to conferences to present their research and compete in case study competitions. The K-State Agricultural Economics Case Study Team has an outstanding record of placing at the top of national and world competitions.
While grad school can be challenging, it can be highly rewarding in a positive environment. Our grad students support each other and also enjoy spending time together outside of school. Student offices are in an open workspace environment—referred to as the 4th floor—that fosters collaboration and community. The 4th floor also includes its own conference room and kitchenette. While our faculty have esteemed research and extension outputs, they also care deeply about each of the students that they mentor. We enjoy getting to know students individually and connecting with students outside of work through various social events.
