Research Interests and Experience
Brian Coffey is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural Economics at Kansas State University. Brian grew up in southcentral Kentucky and earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Agricultural Economics from the University of Kentucky. He then received a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Kansas State University. After graduate school, Brian worked in Central Asia for several years teaching university courses, mentoring students, and consulting for agribusinesses in the region. Since joining the K-State faculty in 2015, Brian has taught undergraduate classes in production economics and futures market each semester. His research in livestock/meat economics and risk management has produced several peer-reviewed journal articles, extension publications, and media appearances. Brian enjoys teaching others about economics and markets and regularly provides outreach to various groups regarding livestock/meat issues; how to use futures and options to manage price risk in agriculture; and the teaching of economics.
